Alfiere Italian Bistro

Upon entering this restaurant you could be excused for thinking that you were swept away to a quaint Tuscan Trattoria. The terracotta floors, antipasto buffet, wood-burning brick oven and Tuscan scenery murals all combine to indulge the senses in pure Italian. The menu is broad and touches base with all departments of classic Italian fare.  One can select from antipasti, soup, pasta, risotto, fish, meat, pizza, and dessert dishes. Upon arrival we were swiftly delivered a basket of fresh wood oven-baked bread

which was some of the best bread we have had in a long time. A simple and elegant salad of fresh Buffalo Mozzarella, basil and vine-ripened tomato was accented by balsamic vinegar that was reduced to release its sweetness. Also for starters we received the Seared Goose Liver, a bit overcooked

but tastefully teamed with apple chutney, caramelized onions and a few cleansing salad leaves. For main course we had Grilled Tuna that was also overcooked (a serious culinary crime) served with a salad of crushed potato scented with lemon oil and crisp fried onion. The Grilled Beef Tenderloin proved to be a better offering creatively matched with a smooth Semolina Dumpling (aka Gnocchi Roman), baby carrots, crisp eggplant chips, red pepper oil and wine sauce. A selection of desserts from the buffet followed, this included Mango and Ricotta Cheese Cake dredged with ground pistachios, chocolate mousse and a version of Tiramisu.

All in all an enchanting Italian experience with excellent service with a well stocked, beautifully  resented wine cellar.
