Ang Hang
Ang Hang was established 20 years ago and located in Makati. Two decades later, by “public demand”, they have opened once again in Malate. This is a restaurant that serves a variety of Asian dishes for the spice lover and the adventurous at heart. The interiors have bold colors splashed on walls and adorned with different objects from Asia. Do have a glass of “Tea-Liling” (brewed Shanghai Jasmine tea with honeV); it’s deliciously refreshing! The Crispy Catfish Flakes and Pomelo Salad ‘(fresh greens, pomelo, garlic Et chili) started our meal and was delectable. The dressing truly complemented the dish with the salty-sour taste and a touch of mint. For our main course we had the Cambodian Fish (river fish in a hot sweet and sour sauce with scallions, ginger and carrots), and Black‘ Pata (pork’s leg that is steamed then sautéed in sweet sauce) served with pao buns (soft buns) in a bamboo basket. We also ordered the Piña Ang Hang Rice (fried rice with shrimps, chicken, egg, pineapple, green peas, spring onions topped with beef mahu or dried shredded beef) to enhance our dishes. lt was full of flavor and wonderfully presented inside a carved half of a
fresh pineapple. The servings are good enough for two and the intensity of the spice varies; so if you enjoy a little zing in your food, do not hesitate to ask for more.
Of course, to finish our meal, (throwing our diets out the window), we ordered Gulab Jammun (sweet balls made of milk, dough and honey) and Besan Barfi (a cake made of ground lentils, pistachios & almonds with a scoop of vanilla ice cream), both Indian desserts. They were very good and not too sweet; the latter had us guessing what it was made of until the chef declared it was lentils!
