Marina Oyster Grill

Marina Oyster GrillAfter its success in lloilo, the owners decided it was high time they brought the chain to Manila. Fresh seafoods are flown in daily; and very affordable prices keep the crowd coming back for more. Located in Roxas Boulevard, you can dine indoors or al fresco with a full view of the large kitchen that allows patrons to observe how their food is prepared. They have an abundance of fresh fruit shakes or buko juice (young coconut) that you can sip with a straw while you browse through the menu and decide.

Being Filipino food, appetizers were part of the bill of fare so we decided to get right down to it, “Ma kaon ta!” —that’s ilonggo for ‘let’s eat”. Sinigang (broth with vegetables) made with Sea Bass head and cooked with a fruit called Batuan, gave the soup an interesting flavor. Not as sour as the usual way of cooking with sampaloc (tamarind), it is worth a try. Grilled Pusit (squid stuffed with onions and tomatoes) was one of our favorites, tender and juicy. The Lechon Manok (native chicken) – spiced and put on the rotisserie, where you can watch it being cooked, was very tasty, tender and juicy. Oysters fresh by the bucket or baked (topped with butter, garlic, parsley and cheese) is the reason the restaurant has it as part of it’s name.

For dessert, we had the buko pandan (coconut with pandan flavor and bits of corn) and to our surprise it was not too sweet and very refreshing. Do try their coffee It’s a special roast from lloilo and makes us wonder why we do not patronize our home grown beans!
