Mati
Mati is named after a Greek eye-shaped blue-glass amulet that protects its wearer from danger. Surely, there is nothing to fear and everything to look forward to when one comes to this place.
Daytime and weekends, families, mailers and corporate types frequent it; after office hours, it is jampacked with the dinner crowd; and later in the night-almost every night-the young beautiful set gets it a-throbbing.
Anything one orders will take one on a Greek odyssey: from the authentic Ouzo (an anise-based liquor), to the Horialiti (summer salad, fresh, light, but filling), the Youvetsi (lamb with orzo pasta-if one does not like lamb, one will after this dish; it is soft and tender with no traces of the musk); or the Psari Psito (fillet of gindara with rosemary, lemon, garlic and extra virgin olive oil). Generally, Mati’s chefs keep true to the Mediterranean principle of keeping the dishes simple, straightforward, unpretentious and fresh.
The airy interior was designed to resemble a typical Greek home. White walls and arched doorways and frescoes are the norm -all so very Greek. Breaking plates, however, is discouraged.
