Mi Piace

Mi PiaceA very colorful brick oven stands out as you enter this restaurant. And at the front of it, the equally colorful and young Chef Mingozzi is plating his very creative dishes for Mi Piace. The whole restaurant is well-lit and bright with bold Mediterranean colors, even in the plates, an indication of the food that lies ahead.

We started with a simple Mushroom Soup Shooter that was garnished with julienne of baby radish, very aromatic and light. It was followed by a classic Italian Antipasti Caprese, which was basically fresh mozzarella and tomatoes but presented in a more refined and sophisticated terrine. Angel Hair Pasta with duck pastrami and bell peppers was next, again very colorful with a delicate balance of saltiness from the cured duck and the natural sweetness of the peppers, in extra virgin olive oil base. The White Truffle Oil Risotto with thin slivers of Warm Salmon Carpaccio that was all brought together by a subtle but tasty Green Pea Sauce. A seafood dish that followed was perfectly seared Scallops with Artichoke Puree that tasted absolutely fresh and yummy. Our taste buds were cleansed with the Lime Sorbet that was infused with a lot of Vin Santo! The main course was Emincée of Lamb in Tomato Mash with Rosemary which again focused more on promoting natural fla­vors of each ingredient than masking them. Dessert was a Creamy Coffee Flan followed by a one-of-a-kind Ricotta Cheese Soufflé that the chef actually poured out on a Bed of Pineapple and Lychee Ragout that revealed a firm but airy souffle magic that was pure genius. Aside from traditional Italian dishes, the chef also recommended their unique pizza creations.

At the young age of 33, Chef Mingozzi has been working in many great restaurants for 18 years in the most vibrant regions of Italy. But today he shares his creativity in his new lively home, Mi Piace.
